Paynestryke is a cyborg supervillain created as a result of an illegal super-soldier experiment that ran out of control.

History[]

Joanne N. Nane’s supervillian career started innocuously enough as a sectary for Mekaton Technologies, a company that did research and development into cybernetic and robotic systems. However, following the disaster of their COPPER experimental research project, the company was forced to reduce staff headcount to recoup losses, with Joanne being one of those who were scheduled for retrenchment.

However, Joanne was given an offer by one of Mekaton’s silent backers, the mysterious organization known as Cyberworks. They were looking for a testbed for a new cybernetic upper-soldier program, and Joanne just happened to be available. Confronted with the choice between unemployment and transformation to a godless killing machine with a pay rise, Joanne chose the latter.

Rebuilt as a deadly combat cyborg, Joanne was given the code-name of Paynestryke and let loose upon the Superhuman world to test her effectiveness; all the while Cyberworks were carefully studying her and measuring her effectiveness, as well as secretly depositing large sums of money into her bank account.

What they were unprepared for was the degree of bloodlust that Paynestryke exhibited. Soon their controlled experiment was running amok, engaging in a crime spree that well exceeded their initial plan. Feeling that she had become a liability, Cyberworks activated her failsafe kill-switch, only to find that it had been disabled. Furthermore, an investigation by them found that all the money they had been paying her had since been shipped to an untraceable off-shore bank account.

While Cyberworks have been attempting to re-acquire her, Paynestryke has continued a career as a professional supervillain, working for whatever cause or group will give her the biggest cash bonus and allow her to break the most stuff.

Powers[]

Paynestrike was extensively rebuilt by Cyberworks’ technicians, giving her abilities far beyond the normal human. Her cybernetic systems give her superhuman strength and agility, as well as an incredible degree of flexibility. Furthermore, the modifications to her body make her very resilient, both from the reinforcements and numerous implants to the simple fact that she does not feel pain in her cybernetic components.

In addition to these features, Paynestryke is equipped with numerous concealed blades in her limbs that allow her to present a formidable opponent. As these weapons are actually built into her, they cannot be easily disabled not her disarmed without physically hurting her.

It is still unclear how Paynestryke was able to overcome all of Cyberworks’ fail-safes as well as disabling the tracking systems they incorporated into her.

Personality[]

Paynestryke seems to be somewhat mercenary, more interested in financial gain then any cause or goal. However, she does seem to enjoy violence and bloodshed, especially when she’s at the centre of it. Somewhat eager for battle, she has a tendency to drop whatever she was doing if the opportunity for a fight presents itself. She seems to be openly disdainful of men, as well as unaugmented opponents which she refers to as “squishies”. At the same time, she’s rather boastful about her cybernetics and their capabilities.

She seems to bear no ill-will towards Cyberworks for their role in her creation, however, at the same time, she clearly would rather be free from their control – and likes to remind any agents of their she encounters of that fact.

Appearance[]

Paynestryke is in her late twenties, with large blonde hair and blue eyes; she wears a sleeveless, legless black bodysuit with spiked shoulders and obvious cyborg implants. Due to her artificial spine, she is often seen with her back bent in some improbable and painful-looking way.
